February is Black History month and while many people are looking for ways to support black people & businesses, don't forget about the performing arts community. Especially black dance companies.
Dynamic Moves Dance Company was founded over 13 years ago by LaMika Deon. This traveling company is comprised of female and male dancers that train extensively in all
genres of dance. These talented and committed dancers love the stage
and are growing by the minute.
So how can you support a black dance company?
Attend a Show
Dance companies rely heavily on show attendance. Dancers and staff work for months to bring the arts to the stage. By attending a show, your purchase of a ticket helps a company keep dancing.
Interested in attending a Dynamic Moves concert? Shows happen in the Spring, Summer and during Christmas. We would love to see you there.
Take a Class
Dance is a great form of exercise and most studios offers classes for all ages.
Classes are a win-win experience: you get to train with professional instructors and choreographers, and your donation goes to causes that can assist Black artists.
Educate Yourself
Have a love for the art of dance? One of the best things you can do to support dance companies is to educate yourself. Learn about the rich history of black dancers and how companies like Alvin Ailey, Dance Theater of Harlem, Step Afrika, and even Dynamic Moves got started. This is not a complete list of black dance companies the hope is that it will lead you into your own independent research.
